A, An and The are called Articles and are also called Demonstrative adjectives.They are of two types.
- Indefinite Article (A, An)
- Definite Article (The)
Indefinite Article (A, An):
- These articles are used before a common noun (Singular) in the meaning of "one/any".
- The Indefinite article "A" is used before a common noun (singular) which starts with a consonant sound (not consonant).
- The Indefinite article "An" is used before a common noun (singular) which starts with a vowel sound (not vowel).
- a hotel, an honest man (not
a honest man) - an egg, a European (not
an European)
