Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport has been attacked by the Taliban on 8th April at 11:00PM (Local time). And it has been claimed by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). There were 28 people killed in the fought between 10 militants and soldiers.

The militants are expected to have entered airport with fake passports and started gunfire at cargo. The Jinnah International Airport was shut and the planes were diverted to other airports. In a long battle between army and the 10 militants which lasted until 4:00AM on 9th June 2014, nearly for 5 hours, 7 of the militants died in gun battle and the rest three detonated bombs themselves and died.

“The cargo was set to fire. And no aircraft has been damaged.” Said an official at airport. It is not the first time the largest airport in Pakistan has been under attack. It is also expected one of the reasons for the attack is the peace talks between the Pakistan government and Pakistan Taliban
Last time 4 aircraft crashed at the airport between 1953 and 2010 while taking off, resulting in 34 causalities. In 1986, a Boeing 747-121 aircraft of Pan America World Airways was hijacked by Palestinian gunmen, who killed 20 passengers in the incident.
