How to prepare and make a good oral presentation.

Spoken presentations to an audience can come in variety forms. We should make sure our purpose before making the presentation, whether it is:
  • To inform
  • To persuade
  • To entertain
  • To meet and get on with your audience

a.How to prepare a presentation: 
  • Topic Information should be randomly collected
  • Relevant information is to be selected
  • Information must be organized to suit the audience levels
  • Graphics and visuals should be organized where ever possible
  • Finally, text should be edited according to the time

b.How to make an oral presentation:
  • Presentation should be rehearsed.
  • Flow of thought must be checked and adjusted to the allotted time.
  • Body language should be monitored with built in pauses, gestures, postures and the such.
  • Final presentation is made.

Points to remember:

1.Audience: Consider their knowledge, education, ability to follow what you have to say; their expectations; their needs- practical, intellectual, personal.

2.Structure: This includes thinking about: content, priorities, ordering.

3.Communication aids: These include whiteboard, flipchart, overhead projector, and data projector.

4.Delivery:  
  • Most speakers need some form of prompt to make sure that they follow their pre-planned line or argument. This needs a careful management.
  • A number of strategies are available to make sure that you address the audience directly and maintain their attention.
  • Questions and interruptions need to be handled firmly and skillfully.
